3. National SMART Grant
SMART stands for Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent. This grant is provided for third- and fourth-year students who are also eligible for the Pell Grant.
To qualify for a National SMART Grant, you should be enrolled in an Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Critical Foreign Languages major. There are other related majors that will qualify you for a National SMART grant.
4. SEOG or the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.
The SEOG is granted to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Pell Grant recipients receive priority. Awards range from $1000 to $4,000.
5. Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP) program.
LEAP provides both outright grants and payment for community service work-study. Although it’s a federal program, it is administered through the states and colleges, so a LEAP program can be a part of a school’s financial aid package.
6. Individual Grants Provided by Colleges and Universities.
You can also go directly to the college or university of your choice and ask about the grants that they offer for qualified students.
A great starting point is to decide where you want to apply, and then connect with college reps who can answer your questions about grants.
