Find Schools You Want to Attend
Most colleges and universities offer scholarships (yes – even online schools!). Therefore, a great place to start your scholarship search is to research schools and make a list of places that you would like to apply to and attend. Researching colleges on your list will not only help you find the scholarships they offer, but will also help you identify other opportunities for financial assistance and determine the cost of tuition.
Another reason to start your scholarship research by identifying schools that interest you is that many scholarships from corporations, nonprofits, churches, and other institutions will require detailed information about your academic pursuits and even ask for a list of schools you are applying to.
Scholarships offered by colleges are not always based on academic merit or athletic ability. Many are created to attract certain kinds of students to their schools. For example, a school may want more women in their computer science department or more students interested in international relations, and offer scholarships to those particular groups.
Researching schools can be a time consuming process, but it’s well worth it!
